To celebrate the Louis Vuitton store opening in Marseille, photographer James Reeves brings to light the beautiful lines the city traces between architectural monuments and new prestigious projects.
Second largest city in France after Paris and "Port of the Empire", Marseille is the merging between the ancient and the new.
Where archaeological remnants of the Greek and Roman settlements still lay, Marseille also welcomes new construction initiatives and is the designated European Capital of Culture in 2013.
The new Louis Vuitton store in Marseille holds this city's tradition to melange traditional, historical and the innovative. The building is an old hotel particulier renovated into a new travel experience over three floors and 95m2 terrace. The renovation of the store has brought out the best of the building's old finishing and pilasters, enhanced with the composition of modern interiors.
Photographer James Reeve has captured the city from La Major the Romano-Byzantine Basilica, up to the CMA-CGM Tower by architect Zaha Hadid in the Euromediterranee district. Through this series of photos one can appreciate the variation between stone wall texture of the Chateau d'If in the bay of Marseille to the industrial edges of Le Silo d'Arenc which create an altogether original environment.
